YOUR ENERGY CONNECTION CORNER, VOL 11

Managing Fear

There is an awful lot of fear in our world these days. Stirring up fear is a way of getting attention and commanding our attention so that we are laser-focused on the source. The energy of fear is controlling. When we’re afraid, we feel threatened by something that is making us believe we are not safe. When we feel unsafe, we can be made to do all manner of things. Fear has been wielded for as long as humans can remember in order to control. Control over other people, situations, animals, etc. We’ve heard the expression that a person or circumstance can “strike fear into the heart”. When we let fear dictate our lives, we are letting it control us.

It’s all too easy to allow fear to rule us and dictate what we do. Many of us were raised in a culture that programmed certain fears into us. Fear of punishment or shame. Fear of “them”. Leaders around the world and throughout time have used fear to gain and maintain power. Fear of pain or death is used to keep people “in line”. Fear can be a powerful weapon in the form of a physical threat of some kind or in the form of an idea, ideology, dogma, law, or religion. It creates a lot of tension in the body. Fear can make us clingy and inflexible, constricted. Fear stops the process, it stops flow. It can cause us to run or to hide. Fear can keep us stuck in the past or trapped and unable to act. Our response to fear is often to grip and not let go.

Fear can also be used with the intention of keeping us safe. Children are taught “stranger danger” to prevent them from getting too close to a person who could be dangerous to them. Children are also taught to be careful crossing the street and to look both ways and to perhaps be afraid of moving vehicles so that they avoid them and keep from being hurt. Fear is used as a deterrent to direct people away from dangerous situations like caution tape around a downed utility pole with a live wire or a sign saying beware of dog. In some situations, we may have a “healthy fear” of something and that fear keeps us safe. Sometimes it can feel exciting and stimulating to be afraid. The accompanying stimulation or that rush can be really attractive and have a strong pull similar to a drug. You feel alive! (Horror movies, anyone?)

As with all of the energies we explore here at Your Energy Connection Corner, my objective is to increase our awareness of the energy so that we can have greater seniority with it. So that it is not owning us. This is particularly important with fear because it is so controlling. We fear what we don’t understand. If we can increase our awareness and understanding of fear itself, then we can notice when we’re in the grip of fear. When we’re allowing ourselves to be controlled by it. With that awareness, there are things we can do to manage it.

For me, top of the list is grounding. When I become aware that I’m anxious and that I am sitting in fear of some kind, it is immensely powerful to sit, close my eyes, and decide that I have a connection running from my physical body at the base of my spine down through the layers to the center of the Earth. I’ve heard several prominent teachers talk about this energy tool lately. Grounding our physical body is the first step towards clearing out the fear and owning our space. As you create a grounding cord for yourself and begin to release fear in your space, notice any images or stories or memories that come up. Notice any programming you may have around what you should be afraid of and notice how your body responds to that program or that messaging. Breathe, release. Allow that grounding cord to conduct that energy out of your space and down into the Earth where it can be neutralized.

As you release, decide to call your energy back to you. Call in your own healing energy. Call in the energy of forgiveness. You may see forgiveness as a gentle, golden light. Call back your joy, your validation, your amusement, your love! Breathe. Release. Replenish.

If you’d like more communication and support, please don’t hesitate to reach out. This is important work. It is brave work. Be patient and gracious with yourself.

  With Love,
Lynnette Suzanne
